Cost: $4.4 billion

New York City-based Turner Construction has continued a string of recent awards with a Honda EV battery factory project in Ohio, the company told Construction Dive. Honda and LG Energy Solution have so far committed to investing $3.5 billion in the project, but that amount is likely to rise to $4.4 billion, according to a Honda press release.

Turner, along with Philadelphia, Mississippi-based Yates Construction and Westerville, Ohio-based Kokosing Industrial, will lead the construction work, the company said.

The plant will fuel Honda’s goals to electrify its fleet in the United States. The plant will begin production in 2025 and it plans to use batteries produced in the factory starting in 2026.

Ground preparation at the site is already underway, including the necessary infrastructure required prior to the start of construction. It will be substantially complete by the end of 2024, with production to start by 2026. Turner expects that construction work will employ 2,600 people daily, according to a release shared with Construction Dive.

“We are extremely excited to be part of the team that will deliver this plant, which will support Honda’s goals to electrify its entire fleet of cars sold in North America,” said Tom Manahan, senior vice president at Turner.

The company has landed several other high-profile projects in the past 10 days. The Buffalo Bills selected Turner as part of a JV with Gilbane Building Co. to build the $1.4 billion NFL stadium project. Turner was also tapped for a $236 million contract to modernize the Silvio J. Mollo Federal Building in Manhattan.
